
Mrs. Vonyee Newton Kolison
Mrs. Vonyee Newton Kolison is a dedicated professional serving the YMCA of Liberia in various capacities. She holds the position of National General Secretary/CEO and is responsible for providing overall leadership and strategic direction for the organization, ensuring that its programs and activities align with its mission and goals.
Mrs. Kolison has been involved in peacebuilding and resource mobilization efforts. She coordinated the Liberia YMCA peacebuilding programs, focusing on building psychosocial capacity among youth, and served as Executive Director of the Monrovia YMCA and as director of resource mobilization.
Mrs. Kolison’s educational background includes a Master of Arts in Peace Studies and Conflict Transformation (MA), a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (BA), and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology (BSc) from the University of Liberia. She is an alumna of Cathedral Catholic High School.
Beginning as a volunteer, her commitment to sustainable development is evident in her involvement in projects, programs, and training, such as the newly established Y-Digital Lab and the YMCA Podcast Studio. As the National General Secretary of YMCA Liberia, she expressed excitement over the programs, highlighting their significance in bringing vitality to the organization and the community.
Mrs. Kolison’s leadership and dedication continue to contribute significantly to the mission and impact of the YMCA of Liberia for now and the future.
Her outstanding achievement did not go unnoticed when, in 2005, she was appointed to serve on the Youth and Gender Committee under the transitional process following the 2005 national elections. In recognition of the outstanding services she has rendered and continues to render to the young people of Liberia, former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf admitted her to the Order of the Star of Africa with the grade of Chevalier and named her Youth and Peace Advocate, Social Worker, and Volunteer of the Republic of Liberia.
On June 15, 2023, she was awarded alongside the then Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, “THE GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARD” by the Mary Laurene Brown School of Excellence for her support demonstrated in the advancement of education in the Liberian school system.
